The new space race has actually begun, Boeing’s harsh jabs in contradiction of SpaceX count. The launching of Falcon Heavy, by SpaceX in the month of February, considered to be the most powerful operating rocket globally. Boeing, who are working on their own rockets, are not that convinced about it. However, it has been entitled that Falcon Heavy, has been the failure to impress the spaceflight department at NASA, emphasizing over the spaceflight head bill Gerstenmaier, he shared that the rocket was too small, as per the space agency’s requirements for deep space exploration.
Recently, Boeing has generated a website known as “Watch Us Fly” an effort in promoting its spaceflight. One section that has been noticed, is a page that highlights the claims related to the company’s Space Launch System rocket, that NASA has planned to use in the future for its new missions. Moreover, as the Boeing built SLS, into the process of operating it will be considered one of the most powerful rocket that has ever been built.
Boeing holds its own rights by citing Gerstenmaier, who has recently debated the changes between Boeings’ rockets and SpaceX’s in a meeting. SLS has unique abilities which are absent in Falcon Heavy as per Gerstenmaier. However, when forced to elaborate the statement, he found it tough to brief why actually NASA needed the SLS, observing the space agency that has not built anything as such that necessitates a rocket.
Further, Boeing-built SLS rocket has been the only spaceflight vehicle that can deliver NASA the tools that actually needed for deep space exploration. In addition, it helps in getting large equipment into space which Falcon Heavy finds it’s difficult to, as shared on the website.
Moreover, Saturn V is still considered as the most powerful rocket, from the decades, which has the capacity to carry up to 118 metric tons to Low-Earth orbit. While, the SLS will be able to carry 70 tons and Falcon Heavy, will be able to lift 64 tons. Well, meanwhile NASA has planned out to make an SLS configuration that will be able to lift 105 tons but will take time until 2020, which will be quite expensive costing billions of dollars.
